Travel and Accommodation


The Tampere-Pirkkala airport is about 17 km south-west of the Tampere city centre. Airlines operating in Tampere include Finnair, Ryanair , Blue1 and Airbaltic. Bus from the airport to city centre takes about 40 minutes and costs about 4 € / person. Airport Taxis are on stand-by for plane arrivals and carry passengers to and from Tampere city. Fare for Airport Taxis is 17 €/person. Normal taxi to Tampere city costs about 35 €. The railway station in Tampere is located in the city centre. Tampere is also easily accessible by bus from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport. Express buses leave from in front of both terminals 23 hours a day and reach the coach station in Tampere city center approximately in 2.5 hours. One way ticket costs 23,60 € and return 44,30 €. Accommodation to all Globelics Academy participants will be provided at the Hotel Victoria (Itsenäisyydenkatu 1, 33100 Tampere) from 16 May to 26 May 2011. (Arrival/departure days can be negotiated). The accommodation is in double rooms with Internet connection and within walking distance of approximately 10 minutes to the University of Tampere (Pinni B Building) as well as the coach station and practically across the street from the railway station in Tampere.
